The Question Of Backlogs In Defence Exams

Candidates who aspire for a career in the defence forces may not be able to focus on their mainstream education, like pursuing a graduate degree. As a result, some of these candidates have backlogs in their academic record. However, these candidates with backlogs, referring to subjects or papers that they have not passed, need to know what they need to qualify for before they appear for defence exams.

• AFCAT: Candidates who have passed or are appearing for the final year exam for a degree course can apply for AFCAT. The condition is that there cannot be any backlogs leading up to this exam. Moreover, they need to get 60% marks in the exam that they had passed right before the final exam, if the results of the final exam have not been declared yet. This rule is applicable for CDS exams as well.
• NDA: While the previous course was post-graduation, candidates can apply for NDA exams even while studying in class 12. Candidates appearing for Class 12 final exams can apply for the test but they need to pass these tests before they can join the NDA. Such rules are applicable for SSB too.
• Others: There are several other exams like SSC, NCC and JAG which do not require the question of backlogs to be resolved. If you have the required eligibility otherwise, you can apply for the tests.
• TES: The criterion for this exam is a little different, with candidates needing 80-85% of marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths (PCM) before they can apply. So, they need to have their class 12 results in hand before they can qualify for appearing in TES.
