There are various gateways to enter the defense forces and the CAPF is another option for you. The exam you should take depends on the kind of profile you wish to pursue after you are selected. After cracking the CAPF, you can work as a gazetted officer with the rank of Assistant Commandant. You can also serve as a Subordinate Officer, termed as Directly Appointed Subordinate Officer or DASO. There is also the post of Constable who is recruited by the Staff Selection Commission. As is evident, there are plenty of options open for you once you get your foot in the door through the CAPF exam.

It is also worth noting here that the CAPF covers seven premiere security agencies of the country, functioning under the Home Ministry. These seven units are the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles (AR), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The number of vacancies to this post, along with the dates of the examination and the declaration of results is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission or USPC. The announcements are usually published in the Gazette of India.

Let’s talk about the eligibility criteria now. Other than the fact that you need to be an Indian citizen, there is the question of educational qualification. You need to be a graduate from a recognized university. It can also be a deemed university. However, if you are a candidate who has appeared for the final exams in the graduate level but are yet to get your results, you can apply for the CAPF exam. The qualification in the written test will be provisional in that case, subject to your passing the graduate level exam.

As for the age limit, candidates need to be in the age group of 20 to 25. It cannot be lower or higher except the standard exceptions for reservation quota candidates. For SC/ST candidates, the relaxation on the upper age limit is of 5 years and 3 years for OBC candidates. You should note here that candidates who had qualified for the CAPF earlier cannot do so again.

As for the syllabus and exam patterns, stay tuned for our next post on CAPF exams here on this blog!
