NDA has clear requirements when it comes to selecting candidates. The eligibility criteria for appearing for the examination in NDA include:
Candidates who are taking the 12th Class test using the 10+2 school education pattern or a comparable exam may also apply. Candidates who passed the SSB interview but were unable to present a copy of their matriculation, 10+2, or equivalent certification in person should send suitably self-attested printouts. Candidates who are permitted to take the UPSC Examination but have not yet passed the 12th grade or an equivalent exam should be aware that this is simply a special favour. They must provide proof that they passed the 12th grade or an equivalent exam by the deadline specified by the UPSC (December 24, 2023, for NDA (I) and June 24, 2024), and no request to extend this deadline will be considered based on a delay by the board or university examination administration, a delay in the release of results, or any other reason at all.
Candidates who have been excluded from holding any form of Commission in the Defense Services by the Ministry of Defence will not be considered for enrollment in the examination. If allowed, their candidacy will be withdrawn. If candidates fill out the online application on the Commission's website, they will not be eligible for the Air Force in Field Duty branches if they previously failed the CPSS/PABT.

Written Examination
The exam will consist of two subjects—Maths and a General Ability Test—and each topic has a time limit of two and a half hours. The maximum scores for each subject are 300 for Maths and 600 for General Ability. All of the subject papers will solely include objective-type questions. The GAT (General Ability Test) Part B and Mathematics question papers will be bilingually written in Hindi and English. The Commission may choose to set the minimum passing scores for any or all examination subjects.
Interview
After the written test, qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview with the SSB (Services Selection Board). Candidates for the Army, Navy, and 10 + 2 Entry Scheme must pass intelligence and personality tests, but those applying for the Air Force Wing must take a pilot aptitude test. Both personality and intelligence tests are administered during the interview. The SSB procedure is divided into two stages: stage I and stage II of the selection process for the intelligence and personality tests.
